Pipedrive is a simple sales pipeline priced per user. HubSpot starts free but costs a lot more at Professional. Here is which suits a sales-first team and which suits marketing.
If your business lives or dies by follow-up calls and closing deals, Pipedrive is usually the better fit: a clean sales pipeline priced per user, from $14 a month. If you want to start free and later grow into email marketing and automated nurturing, HubSpot makes more sense, but its Professional tier costs far more than the free plan suggests. This guide compares real first-year costs for a small team, shows where each tool falls short, and covers a third route for owners who want their website and CRM in one place.

Pick Pipedrive if you have a small team that sells by phone, email and meetings, and you mainly need everyone to see which deals are moving, which are stuck and what to do next. It is a sales pipeline first and everything else second. You pay per user and there is no setup fee.
Pick HubSpot if you are one or two people who want to start at $0, or if marketing (newsletters, landing pages, nurturing leads over weeks) matters as much as closing. It is a broad platform, with marketing, sales, service and website tools sharing one contact database. The free plan is good. The jump to Professional is large.
Pick neither for now if most of your leads come through your website and what you really need is for enquiries to land somewhere tidy, with a reminder to follow up. A website builder with a CRM inside it can be simpler, and we cover that option near the end.
Pipedrive is built around a visual pipeline. Each deal is a card in a column (for example New lead, Contacted, Quote sent, Negotiating, Won), and you drag it along as things progress. The whole product pushes you towards one habit: every deal should have a next step booked, such as a call on Thursday or a follow-up email on Monday. For sales-led businesses, that habit alone is worth paying for.
Since its 2025 plan change, Pipedrive has four plans. Lite covers the pipeline, contacts, custom fields, reports and call logging. Growth adds email sync, workflow automations, email sequences, a forecast view and a meeting scheduler. Premium adds LeadBooster (web forms, chatbot, live chat and a lead prospector), custom lead scoring, Smart Docs for quotes and proposals, a team inbox and projects. Ultimate raises the limits. Email marketing (Pipedrive calls it Campaigns) is a separate paid add-on on every plan.
HubSpot started as marketing software and grew into a full customer platform. Its free CRM includes contact management, deal pipelines, forms, live chat, basic email marketing and a meeting scheduler. It covers up to two users and 1,000 contacts, with no time limit. Paid plans come in Starter, Professional and Enterprise tiers. They are sold separately for sales (Sales Hub), marketing (Marketing Hub), service and content (Content Hub, which includes a website builder), or as a bundle. Professional is where you get fully customisable workflows, custom reporting and much higher limits.
Prices are in US dollars per user per month at the time of writing (October 2026), before tax. Pipedrive figures are for annual billing. Paying month to month costs more with both vendors. Pipedrive Growth, for example, is $49 per user instead of $39.
| Plan | Price per user per month | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Pipedrive Lite | $14 | Pipeline, contacts, reports. No email sync or automations |
| Pipedrive Growth | $39 | Adds email sync, automations, sequences, forecasting |
| Pipedrive Premium | $59 | Adds web forms, chatbot, live chat, lead scoring, Smart Docs |
| Pipedrive Ultimate | $79 | Highest limits |
| HubSpot Free | $0 | Up to 2 users and 1,000 contacts, HubSpot branding |
| HubSpot Starter | $20 list price | Discounted for new customers for a limited time at the time of writing |
| HubSpot Sales Hub Professional | $90 on annual billing ($100 month to month) | Plus a required $1,500 one-time onboarding fee |
| HubSpot Marketing Hub Professional | From $800 a month with 3 seats included | Plus a required $3,000 onboarding fee. Includes 2,000 marketing contacts |
Here is what a three-person team would pay in its first year:
The pattern is clear. HubSpot is the cheapest way to start and the most expensive way to grow into serious automation. Pipedrive costs money from day one but goes up in small, predictable steps.

Typical fits: a B2B services firm with two or three salespeople, a recruiter, an installer quoting jobs, a software reseller or an agency winning retainers.
Typical fits: a business that wins customers through content and email (online courses, B2B software, consultancies that publish a lot), or a founder who wants a free CRM today and plans to hire a marketer next year.

Pipedrive and HubSpot both assume you already have a website and will connect its forms. For many small businesses (a cleaning company, a consultant, a clinic, a tutor), the website is where nearly every lead comes from. So you end up paying for a website builder and a CRM, plus the time it takes to connect them, and enquiries still slip through when a form breaks.
WebNewBiz takes a different route. You describe your business in plain language, the AI drafts the website, and you edit it by chatting with the AI Copilot. From the Growth plan ($79 a month, with the first month at $1), the site comes with an AI CRM for 3 team members and 3,000 contacts. Website enquiries land in it automatically and store buyers become contacts. The AI reads and scores leads, and you also get deals, tasks, bookings and invoices that chase themselves, plus an AI funnel builder with 26 templates. Hosting, an online store, backups and a free domain for a year are part of the same plan. Pro ($149) adds the marketing automation side, with email campaigns and social media auto-posting, and raises the limits to 10,000 contacts and 5 team members.
For three people, that is $79 a month for the website and CRM together, against $117 a month for Pipedrive Growth on its own. To be fair about the limits:
It fits best when up to three people handle enquiries and the website, the store and the follow-up are really one job. For a wider comparison, see our guide to choosing a website builder with a CRM.
If you are still undecided, our guides to Pipedrive alternatives and HubSpot CRM alternatives cover other options at different prices.
Is Pipedrive cheaper than HubSpot?
Not to start with: HubSpot has a free plan for up to two users and Pipedrive does not. Once a small sales team needs paid features, Pipedrive is usually cheaper. Growth costs $39 per user per month on annual billing. HubSpot Sales Hub Professional is $90 per seat plus a $1,500 onboarding fee.
Does Pipedrive have a free plan?
No. It has a 14-day free trial with no credit card needed. Paid plans start at $14 per user per month on annual billing, but that Lite plan has no email sync and no automations.
Is HubSpot's free CRM really free?
Yes, with no time limit, for up to two users and 1,000 contacts. The free tools show HubSpot branding. A third user or advanced automation means moving to a paid plan.
Which is better for marketing automation?
HubSpot. Marketing Hub Professional handles proper automated lead nurturing, but it starts at $800 a month plus a $3,000 onboarding fee. Pipedrive offers email marketing only as a paid Campaigns add-on and is built mainly for sales.
Which is easier for a small team to learn?
Pipedrive, in most reviews. It does one job well, the sales pipeline, and new staff tend to pick it up quickly. HubSpot is easy at the free level but gets more complex as you add hubs and features.
Can I get a website and a CRM in one tool?
Pipedrive has no website builder. HubSpot sells one separately in Content Hub. WebNewBiz includes the website, hosting, an online store and an AI CRM for three team members on its Growth plan at $79 a month.
If Pipedrive or HubSpot fits your team better, use its trial or free plan and go with it. If you would rather have the website, enquiries and CRM in one place, have a look at our AI website builder, or try the free AI Website Preview, which designs a homepage from one sentence. When you are ready, you can start for $1 for the first month and cancel any time.
