A neutral comparison of AI draft speed, design control, CRM and invoicing, online stores and verified US prices, so you can see which one fits.
Durable and Wix both say they can build your website with AI, and both publish comparison pages that, unsurprisingly, say they win. This guide is a neutral look at what actually decides the choice for a small business. It covers how fast each AI produces a usable first draft, how much you can change afterwards, whether a CRM and invoicing come built in, what happens when you want to sell products, and what you pay at the time of writing (October 2026). It ends with plain advice on which kind of business each one suits.

Choose Durable if you run a local service business (a cleaner, plumber, tutor, coach or consultant), you want a tidy site live today, and you like having contacts, invoices and payment reminders in the same dashboard. It is faster and simpler than Wix, and harder to break.
Choose Wix if you want to sell products, need lots of pages, care about how every section looks, or expect to add features later through apps. Its AI takes a few minutes rather than seconds, but you get far more design control and a full online store.
If you need a proper store and a real CRM in one place, or you would rather change your site by chatting than by dragging boxes around, there is a third option further down.
Prices are in US dollars per month on annual billing, at the time of writing (October 2026).
| What matters | Durable | Wix |

| CRM | Built in, unlimited customers on paid plans | Contacts, inbox, workflows, tasks and automations |
| Invoicing | Yes, with automatic reminders and a Stripe payment link | Wix Invoices and price quotes |
| Online store | Not designed for e-commerce | Full store from Core ($29) |
| Cheapest paid plan | Launch, $22 | Light, $17 (cannot take payments) |
| Free plan | Yes, on a durable.site address | Yes, with Wix ads and a Wix address |
Both companies publish pages comparing themselves with the other. Durable's comparison gives its own build time as 30 seconds and Wix's as "several hours". Wix's page describes Durable as built for speed, then argues that Wix wins on design control, its app market and a complete store. Neither is exactly wrong, but each one picks the measure it wins on.
A fairer test is to ask what you need in your first year: a site that brings in enquiries, a way to keep track of those people, a way to get paid, and room to grow if the business changes. The sections below take those one at a time.

Durable promises you can "get online in 30 seconds", and independent reviews in 2026 broadly agree. You enter your type of business and your location, and about half a minute later you have a page with a headline, service sections, images, a contact form and a public web address. It is fast because it asks very little and makes most of the decisions for you.
Wix changed its AI builder this year. In January 2026 it launched Wix Harmony, a new editor built around an AI agent called Aria. You describe your business and Aria generates a full site with pages, sections and starter content, which you then refine. Because it asks more and builds more, expect minutes rather than seconds: one 2026 review put a comparable Wix AI setup at 5 to 10 minutes. Harmony has been rolling out gradually, English first, alongside the classic Wix Editor, so what you see may depend on your account.
Here is what the speed difference really means. Both tools hand you a draft, not a finished website. Durable's 30 seconds is genuinely useful if you have nothing online and need something today. But you will spend the same hour or two on either tool replacing stock photos and generic copy, so the gap matters less than the headline numbers suggest.
Durable's editor is made for people who never want to think about layout. You edit text where it sits, add, move or remove blocks, and change colours and fonts. Reviewers point out that bigger structural changes are limited and that you cannot edit the HTML or CSS or add custom code. The upside is that it is very hard to make a mess. The downside is that your site will look a lot like other Durable sites, and if you later want a particular layout, you may not be able to build it.
Wix sits at the other end. After the AI draft you can drag elements anywhere, adjust spacing and typography and add animation. In Harmony you can also ask Aria in plain language to redesign a section or change the colour palette. The Wix App Market adds hundreds of apps for things like bookings, events, reviews and memberships. The cost of that freedom is time: more settings, more to learn, and more ways to end up with a cluttered page on mobile if you are not careful.
One caution: Wix's own help centre lists some features, including its CMS and multilingual tools, as not yet available in Harmony, and Harmony does not support custom code. If you rely on those, check before you start, or use the classic editor.
This is where Durable is strongest for service businesses. Its paid plans include a built-in CRM with unlimited customers (the free plan caps it at 10). Invoicing sits in the same dashboard: you add line items, tax and discounts, send the invoice by email and choose how often an unpaid invoice triggers an automatic reminder. Once you connect Stripe, each invoice carries a link to pay online and is marked as paid when the money arrives. The Launch plan also covers paid bookings. Online payments only work if Stripe operates in your country, so check that first.
Wix has more customer tools than many people realise: contacts (site leads are added automatically), an inbox that gathers form submissions, email and Messenger chats, workflows for tracking leads, tasks, automations such as thank-you emails or abandoned-cart reminders, price quotes that turn into invoices, and Wix Invoices for requesting payment. They live in different parts of the dashboard rather than in one CRM. Getting paid online also needs a plan that accepts payments, which means Core at $29 or above, not Light. We go into the details in our guide to whether Wix has a CRM.
In short: if your work is mostly quotes, jobs and invoices, Durable gets you there with fewer clicks. If you also want email campaigns, a store and bookings all feeding the same contact list, Wix covers more ground, at a higher price.
Durable is upfront about this. Its own pricing FAQ says it is "not designed specifically to support e-commerce businesses". You can take payment for invoices and bookings, and some owners have set up simple sales, but reviewers describe its e-commerce as basic. If products are a meaningful part of your income, Durable is the wrong tool.
Wix has a full store built into the same editor, with product pages, cart and checkout, automations such as abandoned-cart reminders, and store apps from the App Market. Remember that Light ($17) cannot take payments, so the real starting price for a Wix shop is Core at $29, with Business at $39 and Business Elite at $159 above it. For a product business choosing between these two, Wix is the clear winner.
US prices per month on annual billing, October 2026. Both cost more if you pay month to month.
| Plan | Price | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Durable Free | $0 | durable.site address, CRM limited to 10 customers, a small allowance of AI credits |
| Durable Launch | $22 | Your own domain, built-in CRM with unlimited customers, paid bookings, AI blog and SEO tools |
| Durable Grow | $41 | Everything in Launch plus unlimited team members, five times the AI usage and other languages |
| Wix Free | $0 | Wix ads and a Wix address, cannot sell |
| Wix Light | $17 | Your own domain, no Wix ads, cannot take payments |
| Wix Core | $29 | Cheapest Wix plan that takes payments |
| Wix Business | $39 | Next step up for a growing shop |
| Wix Business Elite | $159 | Top plan for larger businesses |
The headline numbers hide two things. First, Durable's $22 plan already includes the CRM, while the cheapest Wix plan where invoices and a store can actually take money costs $29. Second, both free plans are fine for testing but not for a real business: you get the vendor's web address instead of your own, and on Wix you also get Wix ads on every page.

Neither fits perfectly if you sell products and also run a proper sales process, with leads to score, deals to track and invoices to chase. Durable lacks the store. Wix has the pieces, but they live in different parts of the dashboard. If that sounds like you, look at a builder where the store and CRM were designed together.
Full disclosure: this is our product, so weigh this section accordingly. WebNewBiz sits between the two. You describe your business in plain language and the AI drafts a complete website (pages, layout and copy), or you start from a template and let the AI fill it in. Then you change it by chatting with the AI Copilot: ask for a new section, a darker header or a page about emergency call-outs. On Starter and above there is also the Design Studio visual editor for when you want hands-on control.
The online store (cart, secure checkout, card payments through Stripe, Apple Pay and Google Pay) starts on Starter at $29. The AI CRM reads and scores leads, tracks deals, tasks and bookings, and sends invoices that chase themselves. It starts on Growth at $79 with 3,000 contacts and 3 team members. Website enquiries land in the CRM automatically and store buyers become contacts, so you are not copying names between tools. Lite at $9 gives you the AI builder and Copilot with hosting, but no store and no CRM. Every plan includes hosting, SSL, a full WordPress CMS and 24/7 chat support, and the first month costs $1.
Where it is weaker: it is a young platform with a much smaller app ecosystem and community than Wix, so if you need an unusual integration, Wix is more likely to have it. There is no free plan. And if all you need is a simple service site with invoicing, Durable's $22 Launch plan costs less than our $79 CRM plan. We compare ourselves with Wix directly in WebNewBiz vs Wix, and if Durable is on your shortlist, our guide to Durable alternatives covers other options too.
This applies to Durable, Wix and WebNewBiz alike. The AI does not know your prices, your service area, your opening hours or the job you finished last Tuesday. It fills those gaps with plausible, generic text and stock photos, and plausible is not the same as true. Reviewers have noted that Durable's AI copy is not always accurate, and the same caution applies to every AI builder.
Before you publish, work through this list:
Both Durable and Wix have free plans, so you can try each one before spending anything. Give both the same two-sentence description of your business, then time yourself doing four ordinary jobs: change the homepage headline, swap a photo, add a services page and send a test enquiry through the contact form. Whichever tool gets you through those faster, with less frustration, is usually the right one for you.
If you would like a third take on the same description, our free AI Website Preview designs a homepage from one sentence, so you can compare the three drafts side by side.
Is Durable or Wix better for a small business?
Durable is better for local service businesses that want a simple site fast, with a CRM and invoicing built in. Wix is better if you sell products, need many pages or want full control over the design.
Is Durable faster than Wix?
Yes. Durable produces a first draft in about 30 seconds. Wix's AI takes a few minutes because it asks more questions and builds more pages. Both drafts still need your own photos, facts and edits before they are ready.
Can you sell products on Durable?
Only in a basic way. Durable itself says it is not designed specifically for e-commerce. If products are a real part of your income, Wix (from Core at $29) or another store builder is a better choice.
Does Wix have a CRM and invoicing?
Yes. Wix includes contacts, an inbox, workflows, tasks, automations, price quotes and Wix Invoices. To take payments online you need Core at $29 or above, because the $17 Light plan cannot take payments.
How much do Durable and Wix cost?
At the time of writing (October 2026), on US annual billing, Durable costs $22 (Launch) or $41 (Grow) a month. Wix costs $17 (Light, no payments), $29 (Core), $39 (Business) or $159 (Business Elite). Both also have limited free plans.
If neither Durable nor Wix quite fits, have a look at the WebNewBiz AI website builder: describe your business, let the AI draft the site, then change it by chatting. You can start for $1 for the first month and cancel any time. And if Durable or Wix suits you better after reading this, that is a perfectly good outcome too.
