How each one builds your first draft, what editing looks like afterwards, where store and payment limits sit, and what you will really pay each month.
GoDaddy Airo and Wix both come up when you ask ChatGPT or Google for the best AI website builder, but they work in quite different ways. Airo is prompt-first: you describe what you want, an AI agent writes the site, and most requests use up AI credits. Wix pairs its AI agent with a full drag-and-drop editor, so you can switch between asking and dragging. This guide compares how each one builds a first draft, what editing is like afterwards, where the store and payment limits sit, and what you will really pay each month.

GoDaddy uses the Airo name for more than one product, which confuses a lot of comparisons online. You may come across three:
GoDaddy also retired its earlier AI Website Builder on 31 July 2026. It moved those sites to the classic builder and offered Airo AI Builder as the alternative. If you use the classic builder, our guide to GoDaddy website builder alternatives covers it in more depth.
On the Wix side, the AI building now happens in Wix Harmony. Wix launched this editor in January 2026 and has been rolling it out alongside the classic Wix Editor. Harmony is included on every Wix plan, including the free one, so the AI itself costs nothing extra. For the wider field, see our roundup of the best AI website builders.
GoDaddy Airo starts with a conversation. You describe your business and what the site needs to do, and the agent builds it as real code (React, TypeScript and Tailwind, according to GoDaddy). In one detailed review, Airo built the front end first. It then set out the rest of the work as a queue of next steps, such as a booking flow or a product list, for you to start one at a time. It also checks its own code after most steps and offers one-click security and SEO scans.
Because it writes code rather than filling in a template, Airo can build something closer to a small web app: a database, logins, bookings with deposits, a checkout. That is its real strength. The catch is that each agent prompt uses credits, and GoDaddy says builds with databases, commerce or custom logic use more than simple ones.
Wix also starts with a chat. The AI asks about your business and goals, then builds a site with pages, copy, images and navigation. You can also start from a template or a blank page. The bigger difference shows straight after the draft: you land in a visual editor where Aria, Wix's AI agent, sits next to the usual drag-and-drop tools. You can ask Aria to change the colour palette or redesign a page, then move a button into place yourself.
With either one, treat the draft as a starting point. Reviewers mention designs that look generic until you add your own photos, and copy that needs your real prices, service area and opening hours.
This is where the two feel most different day to day.
Airo has two ways to edit. In Edit mode you click an element to change text, fonts and colours or swap an image, and it uses no credits. Anything structural, such as a new page, a new section or a form that does something, goes through the agent and costs credits. If you run out, you cannot send new prompts until your monthly allowance resets or you buy a top-up pack. Your published site stays live and Edit mode still works.
In practice you learn to batch your requests. You write one prompt that adds a FAQ section, moves the testimonials above it and changes the button text, instead of three separate prompts. Some people like that discipline. Others find the meter stressful in the first few weeks, which is exactly when you make the most changes.
Wix gives you full drag-and-drop control alongside the AI. According to Wix's help centre, chatting with Aria is free and does not use AI credits. Wix does have credits, but they pay for separate tools such as Smart Chat, the AI Marketing Agent and the AI Phone Agent. Paid plans include a monthly allowance that does not roll over. You cannot buy top-ups on those plans, so getting more credits means moving to a bigger plan.
The trade-off runs both ways. Wix's freedom means more decisions, and it is easy to end up with a desktop layout that looks right and a mobile layout that needs fixing. Airo keeps things tidier, but if Edit mode cannot make a visual change, you have to write a prompt and spend credits.

Airo has commerce built in: product listings, checkout, stock and order management, powered by GoDaddy Commerce. Payments go through GoDaddy Payments or Stripe, and it can take a deposit at booking or the full amount at checkout. You need a paid plan to publish at all, and the entry Starter plan publishes one site. Commerce builds use more credits, so a shop with many products and rules uses up the allowance faster than a five-page brochure site.
Wix has a long-established store with a large app market behind it for shipping, marketplaces and marketing. The limits depend on your plan:
Card fees are similar on both. In the US, Wix Payments charges 2.9% plus 30 cents for standard card payments, and GoDaddy Payments and Stripe charge roughly the same, so for most small shops fees will not decide it. Check the current rate for your country before you launch.

| Ecosystem | Young; connects to Google Business Profile, Instagram and Facebook | Large app market and template library, long track record |
Prices are in US dollars at the time of writing (October 2026). Airo and Wix prices assume annual billing. WebNewBiz figures are its monthly prices, and yearly billing is cheaper. Prices differ by country, so check the version for your region.
| What you need | GoDaddy Airo | Wix | WebNewBiz |
|---|---|---|---|
| A simple site on your own domain | Starter $9.99 (renews at $14.99) | Light $17 | Lite $9 |
| A small shop taking card payments | Starter $9.99, or Professional $24.99 if you change things often | Core $29 | Starter $29 |
| Paying month to month | $19.99 to $199.99 | Higher than the annual prices | $1 for the first month, then the plan price |
Over a full year:
Three costs are easy to miss. The first is Airo credit top-ups: if a busy month runs you dry, a 250-credit pack costs $24.99 and lasts a year. The second is renewals: Airo's first-term prices go up by roughly half at renewal, so compare the second-year price. The third is the domain: check whether one is included in the first year and what it costs after that. Card fees come on top on every platform.
Choose GoDaddy Airo if:
Choose Wix if:
For most people who care about design control and a big app ecosystem, Wix is the safer pick. Airo is better on price and for app-like sites, as long as you accept paying credits for AI requests and using a younger product. If you already use Wix and are thinking of moving, our list of Wix alternatives covers the wider field.
We make WebNewBiz, so bear that in mind as you read this section. It sits between the two approaches. You describe your business in plain language and the AI drafts a complete website (pages, layout and copy). Then you change it by chatting with the AI Copilot: copy, sections, pages, design and images. From the Starter plan there is also a visual editor, Design Studio, for when you would rather click than type.
The biggest difference is what comes with the site:
The honest limits: WebNewBiz is a young platform with a much smaller app ecosystem and community than Wix. There is no free plan. The $9 Lite plan has no store or CRM, and the CRM starts at $79, which is more than Airo Starter or Wix Core if you only need a website. The AI draft still needs your own edits, photos and facts. And unlike Airo, it does not export your site as code. If you leave, your content and domain move but the layout has to be rebuilt. You can see every plan side by side on the pricing page.
Is GoDaddy Airo cheaper than Wix?
At the entry level, yes. Airo Starter is $9.99 a month on an annual plan and can take payments. Wix Light is $17 and cannot take payments, and Wix Core, the cheapest Wix plan that sells, is $29. Airo renews at $14.99 a month and charges AI credits for its agent, so the gap narrows over time.
Can I build a website with GoDaddy Airo for free?
You can build and preview with 50 free AI credits, but you need a paid plan to publish a live site, starting with Starter. Wix's free plan does publish, on a Wix address with Wix branding.
Does the Wix AI use credits?
Chatting with Aria, Wix's AI agent, does not use credits. Some separate AI tools, such as Smart Chat and the AI Marketing Agent, draw on a monthly credit allowance that comes with paid plans and does not roll over.
Which is better for an online store, Airo or Wix?
Wix, for most shops: its store is long-established, has a large app market and starts at the $29 Core plan. Airo can build a store with checkout through GoDaddy Payments or Stripe on cheaper plans, but it is a younger product and commerce work uses more credits.
Can I move my site away later?
Airo lets you export the full source code, though you would need a developer to host and maintain it. Wix does not export sites, so moving means rebuilding. With WebNewBiz your content and domain move, and the layout is rebuilt.
Where does WebNewBiz fit in?
It suits small businesses that want the AI to draft the whole site from a description, edits by chat, and a store (from $29) and AI CRM (from $79) on the same platform. It is younger than both, with a smaller app ecosystem and no free plan.
If Wix or Airo suits you better after reading this, that is a good result. If you would like the AI to draft your whole site from a description, with edits by chat and a store and CRM ready when you need them, see how our AI website builder works. Or start for $1 and cancel any time.
